Demon Copperhead was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for Fiction on the evening of Monday, May 8, 2023. Barbara was shocked, but thrilled, and spoke that evening with The Associated Press, saying: ““I wrote this book for my people because we are so invisible to the rest of the world and so persistently misrepresented…. I couldn’t be happier (about the Pulitzer) for this reason.”
The Pulitzer Prize for Fiction was awarded this year to two works of fiction: Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver, and Trust by Hernan Diaz.
